Places to visit near Delhi – Museo Camera

Museo Vintage Camera Museum or Museo Camera in Gurgaon is a relatively new entrant in the list of places to visit near Delhi. The museum grew out of the collection of photographer Aditya Arya, who converted his spacious basement in a zeal to create history with his first love- photography.

More than 1000 original antique cameras from Aditya’s personal collection and from his friends and family make up for a scintillating collection at the museum. If you are a photography enthusiast and scouting for new places to visit near Delhi, Sinar- the Rolls Royce of cameras will definitely interest you. For history buffs there is the same model of Hasselblad – the camera that went to moon during the Apollo program missions.

In his own words, “It is the only curated camera museum in Asia. And I must thank the number of professional photographers, family members and others who have from time to time been donating the cameras.”

Along with the cameras, you can also witness historical photographs dating back to mid 1800s. Most of these 20,000 photos chronicle the Indian Freedom Movement and come from the incredible collection of the legendary freelance photographer, Kulwant Roy.

Looking ahead, the museum that celebrates photography intends to pay tribute to the art of communicating through images. It will showcase the work of up-and-coming photographers. A library is also in the pipeline as well, with books and other learning materials for eager students of the art of photography.
